Rumors surfaced on Yik Yak that Waka Flocka Flame caused $5,000 of damage at his concert. There was damage, but it resulted from people rushing the stage.
When Waka Flocka Flame told everyone to “turn up” on Saturday, the crowd rushed the stage.
A couple days later, a rumor surfaced on Yik Yak that the artist damaged and/or stole $5,000 of equipment from the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
There isn’t $5,000 of damage, but there is a missing microphone, said Jeremy Schaffer, associate director of production and operations for Event Services.
“Waka and his people were a pleasure to work with and they weren’t involved in anything,” Schaffer said.
In addition to the missing microphone, Schaffer said some monitor speakers were turned on their sides and there was some damage to cables.
Schaffer attributed the damages to the large amount of people on the stage at once. The show was sold out, with about 2,000 people attending. Flocka was told that the concert would be shut down if everyone didn’t clear off the stage, to which he responded: “F--k that – let’s do it.”
He added Event Services is going through the process to file a report on the missing wireless microphone through Ohio University Police Department.
