Today is Monday, Oct. 28, 2019. Here’s what you need to know:
Good morning,
The ride-sharing service Lyft is offering free or reduced pricing for those riding to a job interview as well as their first three weeks of employment if hired, as detailed in a blog post by the company.
Lyft’s new Job Access Program is aimed especially at those in low-income areas for individuals unable to afford transportation due to unemployment.
The program will offer eligible individuals free or reduced-cost rides to and from job interviews, job training and the first three weeks of employment until they receive their first paychecks. It is especially targeted toward helping those who might otherwise not be able to receive transportation, such as veterans and disabled individuals.
“United Way believes that people of all ages and abilities should have an opportunity to improve their economic status through employment,” Alicia Lara, vice president of United Way Worldwide, one of Lyft’s partners for the program, said in the blog post. “When we work with corporate partners like Lyft in pursuit of this goal, the entire community benefits and together, we can affect sweeping change that benefits us all.”
