Letter: Vote for BARE to continue the work that began this year

Activists need another year to follow through on their work.

The more involved I got on campus this semester the more I heard about the Restart campaign. There was this infamous video that I kept hearing about, and no it wasn’t the “Blood Bucket Challenge,” but the campaign video. The video was filled with all of these ideas and plans for the upcoming year. One of those ideas just recently passed, opening voting to all students. Aside from the BARE ticket, other tickets have been openly against the idea and I have no idea why. As a student who pays obscene amounts of money to this school, I would like a say in what’s happening on campus. It’s not as if students could walk in and just randomly vote, there are rules that would be put into effect. Representatives are great, but if it’s something I feel strongly about, I want to have my own voice and make my own choices. I fear that if other tickets get voted into senate all of the progress will be thrown out the window. This campus needs continuity. By going BARE, you have all of these people who are focused on continuing the work that they started last year and want to continue this progress in the upcoming year. There is no way they can accomplish all of the things that they wanted to do because there are so many issues within the system. They have to work their way out of the trouble that’s already started. The “E” in BARE stands for “Empowerment.” BARE wants to continue to give the students the right to speak out about all of the things they deserve. We can’t be compliant with an administration that’s focused only on what they think is best for campus when they should be focused on what’s best for it’s students. They continue to tell us that they “hear us,” but I think with BARE we could have a chance for them to finally listen. And that is why I’m going BARE.
