Construction on Park Place, Mulberry Street and Schoonover Center will continue over winter break.
Construction on Park Place will be nearly complete when students and faculty return from winter break in January, according to university officials.
Officials are waiting for asphalt to finish the construction on both Park Place and Mulberry Street, which has delayed the projects.
This will cause the road’s opening to be pushed back about three weeks, Joseph Lalley, senior associate vice president for Information Technologies and Administrative Services said.
Lalley said he expects the two streets to be open in mid-January,
The westbound lane of Park Place, closest to Alden Library, and Mulberry Street, on the south end of Bentley Hall, have been closed due to repairs on underground utility tunnels.
By the time construction is complete, “We expect the Athens transit and other transportation will be relocated to Mulberry,” Lalley said.
Plans for an updated bus stop on Mulberry Street are also in the works, he said.
Schoonover Center, which has been open since December 2013, is currently in Phase II of its construction plan.
“It’s a multi-phase project and it’s all scheduled to be complete between August and October of 2015,” Joseph Schultz, interim associate vice president for architecture, design and construction, said.
Construction will not be halted on either projects over winter break, officials said.
Ongoing work in Schoonover includes a lecture hall on the first floor of the building, and work on the adjoining Radio-Television Center.
Work has also begun on the installation of an emergency generator for the RTV building.
The foundation for that project is being constructed on what was previously a parking lot between Schoonover and the neighboring Pilcher House.
Schultz says the addition of the generator, which is part of Phase II, will not take up the entire space and will still allow for a few parking spaces.
