Coronavirus: 5 more deaths reported in Athens County since Thursday

Five more COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Athens County since Thursday, bringing the county death toll to 29. Two of those deaths were reported Thursday, and the other three were reported Friday.

Two people in the 70-79 age range and three people in the 80+ age range were reported dead due to COVID-19, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health.

There has been a sudden increase of COVID-19 related deaths reported in Ohio due to a problem with the death data at the Ohio Department of Health, Gov. Mike DeWine said in a tweet. The reconciliation issue will affect the number of reports until it is resolved by next week, he said.

Eleven COVID-19 deaths were reported in Athens County on Wednesday.

As of Feb. 12, Athens County has 4,359 COVID-19 cases. Of those cases, 518 are considered active.
