Student Senate President Gabby Bacha breaks down the student representative body for Bobcats coming back to Athens
Hello Bobcats! My name is Gabby Bacha and I am your elected Student Senate president. I would like to take a moment and introduce you all to Student Senate. As an organization, Student Senate serves various functions. We put on several programming weeks throughout the year, help create legislation to benefit students and connect with students to accurately voice student opinion on university issues.
Within Student Senate, there are commissions that represent a variety of student interests — from Residence Life, to Women’s Affairs, to Governmental Affairs. In total we have 12 commissions that contain students working to serve you. They will advocate on your behalf by reaching out to you and listening to your student experience. From there, they will take action to improve that experience. Additionally, Student Senate has an entire commission devoted to helping student organizations receive money. The Senate Appropriations Commission (SAC) helps fund student organizations on campus through a range of avenues. As well, Student Senate manages uFund, which is another funding source for student projects.
I would like you to know that Student Senate pledges to serve you, the students. Our goal is to improve university life for every Bobcat. You are welcome to drop by Baker 305 at any time. Best of luck with classes, and I look forward to seeing you this fall.
