Golding, Benoit to visit Student Senate

In the last regular Ohio University Student Senate meeting before the new ruling members are elected Thursday, the body will again be visited by top university officials.

Stephen Golding, vice president for finance and administration, and Pam Benoit, executive vice president and provost, will visit senate to talk about the university’s budget for next year.

This will be Golding’s third visit to senate this semester.

The presentation will come after the two administrators and other financial administrators hold open forums about next year’s budget Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We would like to provide an update to students about the information shared at the budget forum today including a brief outline of the process that led to development of the (Budget Planning Council) proposal for next year’s budget,” Golding said in an email.

Benoit said she wants to explain the budgeting process and help students understand the decisions that are made.

“In thinking about next year’s tuition, I would like to talk with Student Senate about the tradeoffs between tuition and academic investment. How do we find the right balance for our student’s academic needs and financial realities,” Benoit said in an email.

The meeting will have numerous other presentations, including awarding the Bobcat Medal Award, the highest honor senate gives out, said Anna Morton, president of Student Senate.

The award can be given to a student, faculty or staff member, Morton said.

Senate will also vote on the proposed budget rule changes presented by senate Treasurer Adam Brown at the last meeting.

A vote could not be taken at the meeting because not enough voting members were in attendance because the meeting was held on a Monday night, instead of senate’s regular Wednesday meeting time.
