Netflix will add new seasons of ‘Tiger King’ and ‘Big Mouth;’ ‘Glee’ and ‘School of Rock’ will depart

With an amazing array of movies and shows in October like season three of You and The Guilty, Netflix had some competition with itself to make this month’s content a memorable one. With the addition of 21 Jump Street and plenty of Christmas movies later in the month, Netflix has plenty of content coming your way.

Even though crowd favorites Million Dollar Baby, Broadchurch and Pineapple Express are leaving, there will still be plenty of shows and movies for you to stream while hiding from the cold outside. November will surely have some great additions for your watchlist.

Big Mouth (Nov. 5)

Bridgeton Middle School’s favorite raunchy students return once again with stars John Mulaney, Nick Kroll, Maya Rudolf and plenty more. The show covers many issues that teenagers face everyday like mental health issues and how to kiss. Season five will have new monsters along with the beloved hormone monster including lovebugs and hate worms.

Some topics this season could be female friendship, cystic acne and most likely some sort of episode about the pandemic. There will be 10 episodes like most seasons and one will most likely be the Christmas episode that was teased at the end of the trailer.

Passing (Nov. 10)

Starring Tessa Thomson and Ruth Negga, Passing is based on Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel of the same name. The movie is completely black-and-white and takes place during segregation in Harlem, NY. The story follows two former friends, Irene Redfield (Thomson) and Clare Kendry (Negga), who can both pass as white and both choose different lifestyles because of it.

The cast is starstudded besides the two main characters. André Holland plays Redfield’s husband, Brian, who both live in Harlem with their two children, and Alexander Skarsgård joins as Kendry’s husband, John, who together live in Manhattan. Because of Kendry’s refusal to announce herself to society as a black woman, the characters expose the audience to racial identity, repression and colorism.

Tiger King 2 (Nov. 17)

The long awaited update of the early pandemic docuseries has finally arrived! The show will focus on Joe Exotic’s campaign for a pardon from former President Trump, a deeper investigation on Carol Baskin’s late husband Don Lewis' death, and so much more.

In the trailer, Joe Exotic reveals his jealousy towards those who are profiting from a documentary following his life including Jeff Lowe, Carol Baskin, James Garretson, Tim Stark and more. Several of the original cast members have become paranoid of what the community of big cat owners will look like now that it has been exposed. Netflix claims that this season will be more absurd than the first, but only time will tell.

tick, tick...BOOM! (Nov. 19)

Lin Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut comes from Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical. Larson is a star to the Broadway community for also composing both Tick, Tick Boom! and Rent. Andrew Garfield will star as Jon, an aspiring composer who waits tables to make ends meet while he writes one of, what he hopes to be, the best musicals.

The cast is stuffed with a lot of big names like Alexandra Shipp, Bradley Whitford, Vannessa Hudgens and more. The movie means a lot to Miranda, who played Jon in a two week revival in 2014.

Cowboy Bebop (Nov. 19)

The 1999 anime is getting a long awaited live-action this month. The sci-fi fiction show takes place in a different universe where Earth is no longer livable, so people must colonize across the solar system. The show follows Spike Spiegel, played by John Cho, while he wanders around looking for bounty hunter jobs.

There will be ten episodes with each running close to an hour each. It has been confirmed that original series director Shinichiro Watanabe would consult, and that Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter Christopher Yost would write the first episode. The show’s team has already started working on a second season, but Netflix has yet to confirm its renewal.

Jonas Brothers Family Roast (Nov. 23)

Netflix announced the special earlier this week and fans can expect a “one of a kind special.” The Jo Bros returned in 2019 and won back all of the nostalgics from the late 2010s. Since then, the three brothers have held two tours and starred in the Amazon Prime documentary, Chasing Happiness.

The special will be hosted by Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and guests will include Pete Davidson, Niall Horan, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, John Legend, Lilly Singh, Jack Whitehall and more. Viewers can expect skits, songs and games.
