Wrestling: Ohio squares off Kent State and Eastern Michigan in weekend MAC matchups

The Bobcats are hitting the road for a pair of meets against Kent State and Eastern Michigan.

Ohio will get two opportunities to earn its first Mid-American Conference win of the season as it’ll hit the road to take on Kent State on Friday and Eastern Michigan on Sunday.

The Golden Flashes enter this weekend’s matchup with a 5-7 record and a recent 27-9 loss to Chattanooga. Kent State has split their conference games so far, winning one and losing one. Their one win was a 30-10 defeat of Buffalo.

They’ll bring three nationally ranked wrestlers to the matchup on Friday in the form of No. 17 Mackenzie McGuire (133-pound), No.2 Ian Miller (157-pound), and No. 15 Caleb Marsh (174-pound).

The “Grudge Match,” as it is called by the two rivals, will showcase a matchup between Marsh and Ohio’s redshirt junior No. 11 Cody Walters. Walters is in search of his 15th consecutive win.

The Bobcats will enter this weekend’s competition with four ranked wrestlers, including Walters, redshirt junior No. 9 Tywan Claxton, redshirt senior No. 20 Harrison Hightower, and redshirt junior No. 17 Phil Wellington. Claxton is in search of his 20th win on the season, while Hightower is in search of his 18th win.

Coach Joel Greenlee and the team was not made available to The Post for comment.

Ohio will make its second trip of the year to Ypsilanti, Michigan where it will take on Eastern Michigan, which is also in search of its first conference win. The Eagles are 7-4 on the season and are coming off a 1-1 performance at the Pittsburgh Duals, where they defeated Duke and lost to North Carolina State.

With two victories this weekend, Ohio can put itself right back near the top of the Mid-American Conference standings, where Missouri currently leads with a 3-0 record.

Following this weekend’s matchup, Ohio returns to The Convo for its third home matchup of the season as they take on Buffalo.
