Athens City Council preview: Nuisance party amendments to see discussion

City officials will debate the proposed amendments to the nuisance party ordinance Monday night.

Athens City Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Athens City Building, 8 E. Washington St. to discuss the possible amendment to the nuisance party ordinance.

The ordinance, if passed, would increase the fine for rambunctious partying but reduce the punishment from a criminal to a civil offense.

They will also be discussing funding for a new fire pumper truck that could cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars, as well as introducing a feasibility study on the renovation project for the Armory.

Council members will also continue to discuss ordinances relating to the Halloween festivities on Court Street, purchasing road salt, and will be introducing an ordinance organizing a barbecue sponsored by the Joint Police Advisory Council, which would take place at the end of the month in front of Ohio University’s Baker University Center.
