The same female Athens High School student who found bomb threat notes in a girl's bathroom and brought it to the attention of school officials was the one who crafted the notes, authorities said.
"School officials reported that a student reported to them that she had found two notes in the girls (bathroom) indicating that there was a bomb in the school and that it would detonate at (1:30 p.m.)," states Athens County Interim Sheriff Rodney Smith's daily news release.
As school officials said Monday, they used surveillance video from the school to track down a suspect.
Authorities "determined that the girl that located the notes was a viable suspect," the release states. "After detectives and school officials interviewed the female, she indicated that she was the one who made the notes for a prank and thought it would be funny."
School officials are seeking criminal charges against the student, who is expected to be charged in juvenile court for inducing panic.
