Youth sometimes lends itself to inexperience. However, that is not the case for Ohio’s wrestling team.
The younger wrestlers on the squad have made an impact and allowed coach Joel Greenlee to take chances earlier in the match because Cody Walters and Phil Wellington provide a cushion.
“I think those are guys that you now look at to win, we now have those guys that no matter who they wrestle, you can look at them to come up on top,” said Greenlee.
Walters (27-2) has been one of the team’s brightest spots and is eager to wrestle after the hiatus.
“I actually have been craving to get back on the mat, I hate not competing. The break was good to get some rest for all of us, and let our minds settle down, but I’m definitely ready to get back on the mat,” said Walters.
The team hasn’t competed since two weeks ago when they swept the weekend against Buffalo and Michigan State. They got the performances that they wanted out of their key wrestlers along with aggressive performances out of the unexpected guys.
Greenlee expects the squad to continue this winning streak.
“I think we’re on a little bit of a roll, once you have a couple of good wins, you want to continue that on,” said Greenlee.
