The morning before the beginning of Yom Kippur, two swastikas were discovered on Ohio University’s campus.
The swastikas were painted on a wall inside Glidden Hall and on Jefferson Hill, according to a statement by OU President Duane Nellis and Vice President for Student Affairs and interim Chief Diversity Officer Jason Pina. The vandalism was reported to the OU Police Department, and maintenance crews are working to remove the swastikas.
Pina and Nellis condemned the graffiti. They stated OU is committed to creating a “safe and welcoming environment.”
“The re-emergence of such a hateful symbol is unacceptable on any day of the year, but this incident is even more disturbing during Yom Kippur,” Nellis and Pina wrote in the statement.
