Women's Basketball: Numbers to know from Ohio's 77-67 win over Northern Illinois

Ohio earned its first Mid-American Conference win on the road Wednesday at Northern Illinois. The Bobcats (3-1, 1-1 MAC) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a strong second half against the Huskies (2-4, 02 MAC).

Here are the numbers to know from Ohio’s 77-67 win:

26

Senior guard Cece Hooks led the Bobcats with 26 points, her second-highest total of the season. Hooks shot 11-for-22 and made two 3-pointers in her dominant performance. The point guard scored 12 of her points in the third quarter. The Bobcats scored 27 points in the quarter.

Hooks has scored at least 20 points in each of her last three games and is averaging nearly 25 points per game.

5

Five Ohio players hit double digits against Northern Illinois. Peyton Guice scored 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. Guice also had a team-high three steals. Redshirt freshman Madi Mace scored a career-high 10 points off the bench. Erica Johnson and Gabby Burris scored 11 each.

Caitlyn Kroll was one point shy from breaking double digits for the first time this season.

18

Ohio forced 18 turnovers by the Huskies — tied for the most this season. The Bobcats only turned the ball over seven times themselves, leading to the largest win margin of the season. Ohio scored 19 points off turnovers while only allowing three.

What’s next?

The Bobcats will travel to West Virginia on Saturday for their second Power 5 matchup of the season. It will also be their last nonconference game of the season and the last game of 2020. The Mountaineers (5-1, 0-1 Big 12) have not lost a nonconference game this season. A win for Ohio would be very impressive in its tournament push in March.
