The Bobcats finished their final tournament of the year this week in Georgia.
The Bobcats finished 11th overall with a score of 927, for 63 shots over par, at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia, on Tuesday. It was the second consecutive last place finish for Ohio.
Sophomore Peyton White led the team, finishing tied for 32nd place. He, along with the rest of the team, was disappointed with the showing.
“I think driving the ball kind of killed us this week,” White said. “I think we didn’t find the fairways as much as we should have, so we’re definitely gonna get after it these next three days and work on our drivers on the range.”
Freshman Grant Engel, who placed fifth overall in the last tournament, finished tied for 38th place. He noted the difficulty of the course but added, “Nobody here is happy with the way they played.”
Even with the team’s poor performance, Engel remains positive for the future.
“I think looking back you have to look at the positives of the round,” Engel said. “You say, ‘Well, I hit my tee shots well or I hit close on some holes’ and you start to build on those things.”
White shared a similar opinion about the team going forward.
“(I am) looking forward to a new opportunity, a chance to start over,” White said. “I think we somewhat found something in the final round and everybody kind of played a little bit better.”
The team will be off until Feb. 9 when they start the spring season with Mid-American Match Play in Dade City, Florida.
