Ohio has extended head coach Lionel Mauron’s contract through the 2022-2023 season.
Mauron was announced as the 15th head coach in program history on Sept. 14, 2021, just 10 days before the season kicked off. Since then, he has led Ohio through obstacles and tough opponents to a 14-11-3 record.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to extend my time at (OU) and I am excited to continue to build upon what we have accomplished so far,” Mauron said in a university news release. “I’m thrilled to be part of the Athens community and look forward to leading our team, advancing all aspects of our program.”
Before becoming head coach, Mauron served as a graduate assistant for Ohio under former coach Cole Bell during the 2020-2021season. He also has a great amount of experience on the ice, playing both collegiately and professionally. Mauron played at Curry College as well as with the Jacksonville Icemen and the Knoxville Ice Bears.
Mauron is looking to maintain Ohio’s winning record as it wraps up its season with two final regular season games. Although he is off to a solid start with the Bobcats, there is still work to be done.
