The Bobcats did the only thing that they could do to improve on a second-place finish at the Lady Colonel Classic — they won.
Ohio won its first tournament as a team since September 2014 at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green.
Hailey Hrynewich and Lily Pendy are the only two Bobcats who competed in both tournament wins.
Hrynewich rebounded from an uncharacteristically poor last tournament to win the fourth individual tournament of her college career. The one-over-par 145 was her best two-round tournament score of the season and her second tournament win of the season after winning the KZoo Classic in October.
April seems to be Hrynewich’s best month as three of her four tournament wins have come in the month, one each in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
After having the best finish of her career last tournament Nicole Smiley showed even more improvement as she finished tied for third. Smiley was nine-over-par for the tournament and shot rounds of 77 and 76.
Emily Hughes had her best finish of the season, tying for 12th with an eight-stroke improvement over her score in the first two-round tournament she played in this year.
Pendy had a solid first round of 77, but she struggled in the second round to a score of 83, eleven-over-par.
Four Bobcats were in the top 20 last tournament and improved on that as all five Bobcats finished in the top-20. Marissa Balish finished tied for 18th and had her closest score to par in a two-round tournament of her career, as she was seventeen-over-par and had two consistent rounds of 80 and 81.
Fellow Mid-American Conference teams Bowling Green and Central Michigan followed Ohio in second and third, respectively.
The only tournament left for Ohio is the most important, the MAC Tournament, April 21-23 in Stow.
