Last Thursday, a 52-year-old woman had too much to drink and paid the price on the escalators at Baker University Center.
The subject was traveling toward the bottom of the Baker Center when she fell on the escalators between the third and fourth floor. The fall resulted in a rip in her jeans and a bloodied knee.
Once she received aid it was clear she was under the influence, a report from the Ohio University Police Department stated.
According to the report, the woman had glassy, watery bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage on her breath, slurred speech and lethargic movements.
She was issued a minor misdemeanor citation for disorderly conduct by intoxication from OUPD. Subsequently, she was transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital by Athens County Emergency Medical Services.
Almost two hours later, OUPD received a report that the same subject had become a problem in the emergency room and was not cooperating with hospital staff. Authorities then transported her to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and detained her on the disorderly conduct by intoxication charge.
The 52-year-old woman was not the only one this week to injure a knee due to an excessive amount of drinking.
At about 1 a.m. on Nov. 11, OUPD was alerted of a male subject in Treudley Hall highly under the influence of alcohol and with lacerations on his knees caused by a fall. He was then transported to O’Bleness for further medical evaluation.
The subject was also reported as being nuisance in the emergency room, and was eventually transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and was issued a citation for disorderly conduct by intoxication.
On Nov. 13 at about 9 a.m., the Athens Police Department received a report regarding a burglary on North Lancaster Street.
Once officers arrived on the scene, they interviewed the owner of the residence. According to an APD report the owner stated that he found the back door to the residence open and the door frame broken.
The owner believed that items in the home had definitely been moved. The case is still open, though APD does not have any suspects at this time.
