Men's Basketball: Instant reactions to Ohio's 86-67 win over Eastern Michigan

For the second time in three days, Ohio was back in The Convo. As part of its adjusted schedule that stuffed three makeup games into one week, Ohio showed it wasn’t slowing down after Tuesday.

The Bobcats stomped out Eastern Michigan 86-67 and proved the weeks off due to COVID-19 wasn’t the season killer it could have been.

Here are some instant reactions to Ohio’s win over the Eagles:

Accuracy works wonders

Whatever happened to Ohio during the break, it did wonders for its shooting game. Ohio shot its most accurate game since Feb. 3, with a 55.7 field goal percentage. Ohio has been shooting with accuracy, with confidence and with speed.

Behind the arc, Ohio is still red hot. 44.4 percentage on 3-point attempts is the fourth-best percentage for the Bobcats this season.

No start? No problem.

Dwight Wilson has been absent from the starting lineup this week but came off the bench like he never left the court. Wilson had sustained a minor injury before Ohio’s game against Akron, and Boals wasn’t sure on when he’d be able to return. Boals did stress, however, that Wilson’s injury was minor.

Minor was right.

Wilson was on the court for 20 minutes Thursday and, in that time, put up 16 points and six rebounds. Wilson was unsure if he would play up to an hour before the game, but he showed that his injury didn’t slow him down.

Welcome to the 1,000-point club

Throughout his career, Ben Vander Plas has proven himself to be one of Ohio’s cornerstone offensive presences. Thursday codified his place as an Ohio staple. In the second half, Vander Plas sank a deep 3-pointer to push his career point total over the 1,000 point benchmark.

Vander Plas ended Thursday with 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and one career benchmark.
