A German nonprofit is doing its part to help the planet by planting its 100 millionth tree this month.
The search engine Ecosia uses its ad revenue to plant trees around the world. Ecosia specifically targets areas where trees are needed most, such as those with high biodiversity and those most impacted by deforestation.
It took Ecosia 11 years to reach this milestone. During that time, the search engine also created a “tree nursery” in Madagascar that housed 200,000 trees and planted over 3 million trees in Brazil, among other projects.
Ecosia planted its 50 millionth tree last year, meaning it doubled the number of trees planted in just a year. At a time of global unrest and climate change concerns, Ecosia continues to bring good news to the environmental world.
