An Athens man charged with robbery after shoplifting from Dollar General this weekend was arraigned in the Athens County Municipal Court yesterday.
Raymond Luty, 50, was charged with one count of robbery after he allegedly stole two pairs of capri pants from Dollar General, 1016 E. State St., Friday.
Luty allegedly concealed the merchandise in his backpack and denied doing so when questioned by the cashier. Luty then attempted to run from the store, pushed the cashier down and punched her in the nose and mouth while trying to escape, according to court documents.
The cashier did not need medical treatment, according to the police report.
Luty was arrested by Athens Police around 8 p.m. and was booked at Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, where he is still being held on $25,000 bond.
Robbery is a second-degree felony. Luty could spend a maximum of eight years in prison and pay a maximum fine of $15,000 if convicted, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
