As of Thursday, Pam Benoit is the sole finalist for a chancellor position at the University of Colorado Denver.
Ohio University’s executive vice president and provost could be trading the red bricks and hilly landscape of Athens for the mile high city of Denver.
Provost Pam Benoit is the sole finalist for the chancellor position at the University of Colorado Denver as of Thursday.
CU’s search committee originally considered 20 applications, interviewed seven candidates and then the sent the names of four candidates to CU Denver president, Bruce Benson. After receiving the names and researching the candidates, Benson narrowed the list down to three. One of the three candidates withdrew her name because she did not want to make her name made public.

Benson told candidates that if they were selected as a finalist their names would be made public, reference checks would be completed and invited to campus for interviews.
The remaining candidate decided on Thursday to also withdraw from the process, leaving Benoit as the only candidate.
The chancellor provides leadership that instills “excellent teaching, research and scholarships” and is responsible for the administration of academic, administrative, student support and alumni programs of CU Denver, according a news release.
“I believe that an effective Chancellor must be able to appreciate but also articulate the importance of an excellent faculty, high quality research and a strong commitment to educating students for productive, relevant, and successful lives,” Benoit said in her application to the university.
She will visit CU Denver April 28-29 for her interview.
Benson said she hopes that students, faculty and staff will take advantage of an opportunity to interact with Benoit when she is on campus in Colorado for Open Forum and give feedback by May 1.
“The next Chancellor for University of Colorado, Denver will need to be an individual who can unite the campus around a shared vision and has the ability to lead the institution into a future that is undergoing significant change….It will take a leader who understands the academic strengths and who can articulate those in a compelling way to legislators, donors, alumni, and partners,” Benoit said in her application.
CU Denver hopes to have the new chancellor in office by July 1.
Benoit has worked at OU since 2009 and she earned $287,466 in the 2014-15 academic year.
On April 14, she was also named one of four finalist for the chancellor position at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
