The Ohio Department of Health has confirmed two new COVID-19 deaths in Athens County, bringing the total number of deaths in the county to eight.
A woman in the 80+ age range died from COVID-19 on Dec. 14, and a man in his 70s died from the coronavirus on Dec. 12, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health.
These are the first deaths since Dec. 8, according to a previous Post report.
In total, Athens County has had 2,926 cases of COVID-19, according to the Athens City-County Health Department. Of those cases, 527 are considered active.
Athens County is still currently at a red level, or level 3, characterized by high COVID-19 exposure and spread. Residents are encouraged to limit their activities as much as possible.
