New Hampshire voters overwhelmingly choose Trump and Sanders

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders beat Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Businessman Donald trump beat out Ohio Gov. John Kasich

As the polls predicted, businessman Donald Trump and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders came out on top during the New Hampshire Primaries on Tuesday night.

Both the Democrat and the Republican races had winners declared in the late evening hours, which was a change from the Iowa caucuses.

Real Clear Politics reported that Sanders had about 60 percent of the vote and Clinton got 38.3, as of press time.

Trump pulled in 35.3 percent of the Republican vote, with Ohio Gov. John Kasich trailing behind at 15.8.

The rest of the Republican results are as follows:

  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz: 11.7
  • Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: 11
  • Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 10.5
  • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: 7.4
  • Former CEO Carly Fiorina: 4.1
  • Neurosurgeon Ben Carson: 2.3

New Hampshire held the first official primary of the election season.

New Hampshire has been a major stop for many of the candidates, as was previously reported.  Kasich held roughly 100 town halls in the state, which could be a factor as to why he did so well in the state taking second place.

There were 24 delegates up for grabs for the GOP and 23 for the Democrats

The delegate break down is as follows for the GOP:

  • Trump: 10
  • Kasich: 4
  • Cruz: 3
  • Bush: 3
  • Rubio:3

The Democrats fall with Sanders winning 15 and Clinton winning 9.

Both winners in the state addressed their New Hampshire supporters on Tuesday night.

Democratic winner Sanders made sure that voters knew that “the people of New Hampshire have sent a profound message to the political establishment, to the economic establishment, and by the way, to the media establishment.”

“New Hampshire, I want to thank you. We love you. We're going to be back a lot. We're not going to forget you. You started it. Remember, you started it,” Trump said in his speech.

Despite earlier polls, New Hampshire was the first win for Trump thus far.

Other candidates also addressed their supporters, but for other reasons.

Fiorina announced on Wednesday that she was ending her bid for the presidency.

The next primary will be held in South Carolina on Feb. 20 for the GOP and in Nevada on Feb. 20 for the Democrats.
