I am appalled by the actions of the current student senate president Megan Marzec. As everyone knows, she decided to take it upon herself to turn an act of charity into her own political statement. As student senate president she claims to be the voice of the student body on campus and should stand up for what the students believe and not what her personal feelings are.

I am appalled by the actions of the current student senate president Megan Marzec. As everyone knows, she decided to take it upon herself to turn an act of charity into her own political statement. As student senate president she claims to be the voice of the student body on campus and should stand up for what the students believe and not what her personal feelings are.
Her statements alienated a large majority of the students on campus who are from Israel, believe in the Jewish faith, and any student who thinks that Israel has the right to defend itself from rockets that are being fired into their country.
As a student on campus and as the Political Director for the Ohio University College Republicans, I am ashamed to have this woman as my student senate president. It doesn’t matter what your position on the issue is, every student on campus should be disgusted by the insensitivity she showed towards students from Israel and any student who believes in the Jewish faith.
I not only call for her resignation, but that she apologizes in front of the entire student body. I also believe she should have to go through sensitivity training for this incident. If she does not resign, I believe that it will shame Ohio University in the eyes of other universities around the country. I don’t want to be the OU graduate who has to walk into a job interview for their dream job and have to tell their future boss that, yes, Megan Marzec was my student senate president the year that I graduated from Ohio University. Her position as president does nothing but put a stain on the reputation of Ohio University.
I cannot reiterate enough how disgusted I am over the comments that she made in that horrible video and how she did not just offend the people of Israel, but also the families and victims of the deadly disease, ALS. She turned a viral sensation that has risen over $100 million for research purposes into something that was just horrifying. She managed to insult multiple groups of people in a fifty second video, just so she could let her views be known all over social media.
Also, the fact that she won’t take down the video and that she feels no remorse for what she did is unbelievable. If Megan Marzec does not resign I suggest we have a recall vote so that she can see how her actions have affected the students on campus. Her actions are inexcusable and she should be ashamed for what she did to the students of this great campus.
