Spooky season may have passed, but that does not mean witches stop their work in October. If you’ve scrolled through TikTok, you’ve probably seen some form of witchcraft or fortune telling on your screen.
#WitchTok dates back to 2019, but it has since taken over the app. Popular mystical practices include astrology, tarot card reading, numerology (any relationship between a number and coinciding life events) and manifestation methods. However, WitchTok specifically showcases spells to beginner and experienced witches. This community comes together and helps spread knowledge and advice to one another.
This witch community supports each other in times of need. Hashtags like #witchesforblm and #witchesforbiden call attention to political and social movements and discuss emergency information and possible spells to help with event outcomes.
Witches can also use their magic for evil. In July, rumors spread claiming that some witches on the app were attempting to “hex the moon.” A hex is a negative spell intended to do harm to someone or something, so this would mean the witches were intentionally trying to control the moon in order to demonstrate their power and prove to other witches their skill level.
Another mystical practice associated with Witchtok would be tarot card readings. Tarot card readings help other viewers gain better insight into the past, present or future. Most readings include formulating a question, then the reader draws and interprets the card based on their symbols. These would be most similar to a fortune telling.
When tarot card readings pop up on your for-you page, it means that your spirit angels controlled the algorithm and the message is meant specifically for you. This is most meaningful when the reader’s account either has a little following or does not have hashtags or tags in the comments of their video. This is because the video is less likely to come onto your page, so it really is meant for the viewer.
Example of tarot card reading :
Viewers can either claim or ignore their tarot readings, based on whether or not the message resonated with them. Viewers can comment on videos, saying things such as “I claim with positive affirmation,” in order to claim their readings and manifest them into occurring.
Readings are supposed to be a personal and individualized experience, but most videos are generalized for the audience. However, they still resonate with the majority of viewers that they come across and can be specific to them. The best way to get an accurate reading would be to contact the card reader directly and get a personalized session.
While practices like spells and card readings may be difficult for beginners, one way for TikTok users to take part in the witchcraft culture is to practice manifestations. Manifestations are goals or wishes you want to occur. This can range from getting a text from your ex to getting your dream job.
One of the most popular manifestation methods is the 3-6-9 method. This method includes writing down your manifestation three times in the morning, six times in the afternoon, and nine times at night. This also applies to trying to control other people. If you did want to get that text from your ex, you would write their name three times, write your intentions for that person six times, and write what you want them to say nine times. Many users have raved about the effects of manifesting either an event or a person, but it takes constant practice and belief in the process for the practice to work.

Whether it is to manifest a past love back into your life or perfecting your most wicked spells, WitchTok has something for everyone. All you have to do is believe in divine timing or fate, and channel your wishes into positive energy.
