OU President Roderick McDavis was appointed to serve on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Board of Directors and the Bowl Championship Series Presidential Oversight Committee.
McDavis will represent the Mid-American Conference on the board and serve a four year term. He will replace retiring Northern Illinois University President John Peters.
“I am extremely honored to have been selected to serve on the NCAA’s Division I Board of Directors and the BCS Presidential Oversight Committee,” McDavis said in a news release. “I hope that my background and experiences will enable me to be a strong advocate for student-athletes in Division I universities over the course of my appointment.”
McDavis was elected by presidents of other MAC universities.
Unlike boards of other divisions, the Division I board is able to adopt or modify legislation.
McDavis' term will run from July 1, 2013 through Aug. 31, 2017.
