Ohio Notes

Ohio has tied its first two games against MAC opponents, first against Western Michigan with a score of 1-1 and second against Northern Illinois with a score of 0-0. This completely contrasts with what the team showed in its non-conference games.

The Bobcats came into conference play on a hot streak, having won their last four nonconference games by a combined score of 16-1. While their offense has seemed to slow down, their defense is keeping them from losing close matches.

Ohio has been outshot in its last two games. The team seems to be having trouble controlling the game, something they did extremely well before MAC play began.

Bowling Green Notes

Bowling Green currently sits in a three-way tie with Buffalo and Kent State for first place in the MAC after winning its first two MAC games.

Bowling Green, like Ohio, is very defense-heavy. The most goals it has allowed in a game all season is two, in a loss against Duquesne. The Falcons have only allowed five goals all season and lead their opponents in almost every category. They lead their opponents in shots, shots on goal, goals, shot percentage, and corner kicks.

Player to Watch

Junior goalkeeper Celeste Sloma has continued to be a leader in Ohio’s defense, which has been a vital part of the team’s early success. Sloma has five shutouts this year, only two behind her total last season in 13 fewer games. Ohio’s opponents have 37 shots on goal this season, but only six have hit the back of the net. Sloma has been incredibly effective this year and hopes to continue her success against Bowling Green.
