David Wolfort named new chair of Ohio University's Board of Trustees

OU alumnus David Wolfort was elected as the new chair of Ohio University’s Board of Trustees. He succeeded Sandra Anderson.

Ohio University’s Board of Trustees elected David Wolfort as its new chair, according to a news release.

An OU alumnus and a trustee of about eight years, Wolfort succeeded Sandra Anderson, whose term ended May 13. His term as chair will expire May 13, 2017.

“Being a trustee, and now chair of the Board of Trustees, means a great deal to me,” Wolfort said in a news release. “It extends my relationship with Ohio University, which spans over the last 46 years from the first day I entered the Athens Campus as a freshman in 1970.”

Wolfort previously served as vice chair of the board, a position he held this past year.

He said he will continue to support the work of OU President Roderick McDavis and the Board of Trustees in relation to affordability and accessibility, teaching and research, the university’s Capital Improvement Plan and the OHIO for Ohio Initiative in addition to ensuring the university’s financial strength.

In 1974, Wolfort graduated with a bachelor’s degree from OU. He is the president and chief operating officer of Olympic Steel and is a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Industry Trade Advisory Committee 12. He is also the vice-chairman of human resources and a trustee with The Musical Arts Association.

“We never missed a Dads Weekend, Moms Weekend or Parents Weekend,” Wolfort said in the release.
