More than 100 companies will be in Baker University Center Ballroom on Tuesday looking to hire some Bobcats.
The Career and Internship Fair comes around once during each semester, allowing the fair to match companies’ recruiting cycles, said Julia Fleming, OU’s assistant director for employer relations.
“Companies will look at the transferable skills students bring to the opportunity such as communication skills and teamwork skills,” said Kimberly Blue, OU’s associate director of employer relations. “A lot of companies are open to training students too.”
The fair is put on by the Career and Leadership Development Center.
Professional dress and an OU ID are required to attend.
“You know employers are looking to hire Bobcats,” said Melaina Lewis, a junior studying strategic communication. “Students need to plan where to go, who to talk to and what they want out of it. Be ready to impress.”
The center is in the process of collecting data on how many students walk away with a position, but securing an interview on Wednesday is a good sign, Fleming said.
About 30 companies typically stay back for interviews, which in the past included JPMorgan Chase & Co., Total Quality Logistic, and Target, Blue said.
“Sometimes one company has four representatives, and they’re interviewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. straight,” Fleming said.
Occasionally recruiters who are OU alumni are looking to hire OU students, Blue said. Fleming said to watch out for recruiters wearing an “OHIO” lapel pin.
“That’s how you know they’re alumni, and it’s a good way to open a conversation,” Fleming said.
A list of companies that will be in attendance is available at the Career and Leadership Development Center’s website.
