Bird Ice Arena welcomes community back after repairs

Bird Ice Arena was closed for the entire 2024 fall semester, but it is finally back up and running. They've made repairs to mainly the ice, but also updates in the facility. Athens goes bananas for Banana Bar Crawl

The Banana Bar Crawl, the biggest bar crawl in North America, according to @bananabarcrawl's Instagram, visited Athens over the weekend. Hundreds of students dressed up in their banana suits and traveled from bar to bar to take advantage of the drink deals provided by the crawl. Well-Being Wing in Ping now open to students

The new Well-Being Wing in Ping Recreation Center is now open to everyone on campus. This is a space to focus on relaxation and mental health with massage beds, art and music, and calming spaces. Ohio University Culinary Services put on their third annual Winter Fest December 4 to help students de-stress before finals week. Many Ohio University students are questioning ways to access contraceptives and reproductive health resources on campus and in Athens. The Office of Health Promotion worked with other Baker Center offices and Athens Resources to host The Sexual Health Resource Fair Friday. Every year, seniors in the School of Dance have the opportunity to showcase what they've learned with the Senior Capstone Concert. Hot Box Chicken adds new trendiness to Court Street

A brand new restaurant, Hot Box Chicken, opened on Court Street November 22. The owner decided to open this spot because his son attends Ohio University and he was interested in available storefronts. Hot Box is not a franchise restaurant, and students say the chicken is even better than Canes. Food truck vendors hope for more accessible spots

Food trucks are becoming very popular here in Athens, but with that popularity comes a lack of spots to park the trucks. Most of the food trucks park on Union St., but they say they need more space. Owner of Rise & Grind coffee truck, Brandon Buckly, plans to bring this initiative to city council for more user friendly and accessible spots. Lil' Red Dress Project raises awareness for Indigenous women

As part of Native American Heritage Month, the Women's Center and Multicultural Center held the Lil' Red Dress Project, which raises awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women. The red color symbolizes the blood of the sacred lives lost due to violence against native women. Students at the event say this problem needs way more attention brought to it in the mainstream media.
