Year in Review 2021

University mandates for undergraduates returning to campus, a city-wide power outage, numerous protests, the push for vaccines and an attempt at a transition to normalcy through public gatherings, full stands at sports stadiums, vaccine cards checked at concerts, getting the word out for voting on Election Day and celebrating religious holidays has transformed Ohio University’s and the City of Athens’ course of history. The world has been forced to adapt to a major shift in how society operates on an intimate scale; honing in on a region’s community has shown how urban, suburban and rural areas alike have adjusted to a year of dramatic change. The Post photographers have captured this change of tide that reflects how we adjust to change without warning.

Athens County Fair emerges once again for Appalachian Ohio

Tradition ensues once again in Southeastern Ohio at the Athens County Fair in 2021. The annual fair was canceled last summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic raging against the region. As the city of Athens races to encourage vaccinations, patrons enjoy a return to familiar life with the people, food and events that make the Athens County Fair unique and close to the hearts of those who attend.

9/11 Stair Challenge

The OU Army ROTC Bobcat Battalion hosted the 5th Annual Stair Challenge to honor lives lost and heroism displayed during the events of 9/11. The event symbolized the 2,071 steps in the World Trade Center.
