Star guard AJ Brown entered the transfer portal, according to various reports on X. Brown, a redshirt sophomore, played 64 games across three seasons with the Bobcats, averaging 13.2 points across 29 appearances in 2024-25.
Brown entered the portal with a “do not contact” tag, per On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos, meaning Brown has a confirmed, desired destination.
During his freshman year with Ohio in 2022-23, Brown exploded for a career-high 28 points in a Mid-American Conference Tournament victory over Ball State. Brown’s sophomore year was short-lived, with a torn labrum in his ninth game. In his third year, Brown developed into a star for the Bobcats before again injuring his shoulder in the team’s third-to-last regular season game, missing the MAC Tournament.
Brown joins Elmore James and Ben Nicol as the most recent 2024-25 Bobcat to transfer. Ohio added former Toledo forward Javan Simmons and former UNC Greensboro center Jalen Breath through the portal. Brown’s departure gives Ohio one free roster spot to fill in the coming weeks.
