Playa Bowls, a superfruit bowl franchise, will open a location in Athens as part of the $11 million redevelopment of the historic Lostro Building, located at 63 S. Court St.
The restaurant will be one of two confirmed ground-floor tenants in the development, along with Raising Cane’s
Ohio natives Brett and Amy Coleman will co-own the Athens location, marking their first Playa Bowls shop outside the Columbus area, according to a press release.
“We are very excited to bring Playa Bowls to the OU area,” Amy Coleman wrote in a press release. “We are confident that Playa Bowls will quickly become a favorite spot for people in the Athens area seeking nutritious and delicious food options.”
Playa Bowls offers a variety of superfruit bowls, smoothies and juices that customers can choose from or customize their own. The bowls can be made vegan or gluten-free and can be adapted to integrate into Whole30, Keto and Paleo diets, according to a press release.
The Athens shop will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Lostro Building, originally built in 1915, is being converted into a boutique extended-stay hotel with 20 furnished units.
“The Lostro is looking forward to its next 100 years in the community,” David Kozar, a principal at Indus Hotels, wrote in a press release.
The redevelopment is set for completion by Fall 2025.
