Men's Basketball: Elmore James to enter NCAA transfer portal

After three seasons and 92 games played with Ohio, junior guard Elmore James has entered the transfer portal, according to a social media post by The Portal Report, Tuesday afternoon.

In 2024-25, James spent time both as a starter and key bench piece for the Bobcats, filling in for 17 starts amid an injury-riddled season for the team.

In 30 games as a junior, James put up career-high averages in points, steals and blocks while being one of Ohio's best perimeter shooters with a 37.3 percent clip from 3-point range. In Ohio's final game of the regular season against Toledo, the second of three consecutive starts for James in the absence of redshirt sophomore guard AJ Brown, James hit six 3-pointers en route to a season-high 20 points.

James joined Ohio in 2022 as part of a freshman class that has drastically influenced the shape of Ohio's roster, coming in alongside Brown, forward Aidan Hadaway and point guard Ajay Sheldon.

James is the first transfer portal subtraction for Ohio, with the news coming less than a week after Ohio's season-ending Mid-American Conference Tournament loss to Toledo Thursday.
