Baseball: What to know before Ohio takes on Marshall

Ohio just wrapped up its home opening weekend at Bob Wren Stadium with a thrilling walk-off victory to win its first series of the year against Butler. The Bobcats will now have to refocus their attention on a midweek nonconference matchup with Marshall on the road.

Ohio notes

Ohio finally put it together and got a series victory against Butler at home. Several players played exceptionally well, but none were better than outfielder Ben Slanker. In three games, Slanker tallied three home runs and eight RBI.

After using six different pitchers during Sunday’s doubleheader, who the Bobcats will have available to pitch against Marshall is still in question. In last week's midweek matchup with West Virginia, sophomore Jack Gesier got the start. Geiser was used on Sunday out of the bullpen but could still be available for another start against Marshall.

Player to watch: Pauly Mancino

After an exceedingly slow start to his sophomore season, outfielder Pauly Mancino finally got going against Butler. Mancino tallied more hits in three games against Butler than he had in the first six games of the season combined. Mancino was a vital part of the Ohio offense in 2024 and if he can get going, the Ohio offense will be in a much better place.
