Bedpost: Incorporate nipple play in bed

Everyone has nipples. They can be a small thing to overlook during sex, mostly because the idea of utilizing them can be intimidating. However, nipple stimulation can be the key to so many doors in bed and everyone should take advantage of it.

Nipple play is defined as the practice of touching, rubbing or sucking on nipples during sexual activity, often for pleasure or arousal. Nipples are overlooked in this way sometimes, but through the right steps and communication, nipple stimulation can end in an orgasm without even going downtown.

When hooking up with a partner, someone’s neck might be the first place to go after kissing. But inching down a little further, with the partner’s consent of course, is where the magic happens. Whether it’s fondling, sucking, licking or flicking, there are a number of ways to incorporate nipples into the mix.

In a study, 81% of women said nipple stimulation enhanced their sexual experience. However, only 51% of men said the same, but only 17% of those male participants asked to have their nipples stimulated. Oftentimes, this is because men feel emasculated when asking for something typically associated with women during sex, however, gender shouldn’t apply to what feels good. Also, men feel nearly just as much arousal as women when their nipples are stimulated.

There is another factor as to why people sometimes shy away from experiencing nipple stimulation: nipple censorship. Women’s nipples have been censored from TV and everyday life for over 10 years, even after the rise of the “Free the Nipple” movement, before they were not seen as sexual organs and had no need for censorship. Because of this censorship, people dismissed nipples for sexual arousal. Now, there’s a sense of insecurity some people feel when it comes to such a naturally occurring feature.

After nipples were deemed inappropriate, stigmas in bed were developed. However, the battle over women's bodies is ongoing, and this seems to be one area people are making progress on as the “Free the Nipple” movement continues.

Toys can be used with nipples too. There are many toys made specifically for nipples, some tame and some more intense. Nipple play doesn’t always have to be as intense as some might imagine initially. Medieval looking contraptions aren’t always involved, plus everyone has built-in nipple toys through touch and taste.

After receiving consent from a partner, nipples should be approached with care. Light touching and tasting will give someone a sense of their partner’s sensitivity, as all people are different. After feeling around, the level of intensity can pick up with a little sucking, flicking the tongue or light pinching. Don’t neglect the other nipple, moving back and forth can make things even more fun and interesting. For those who might be more into intense play, biting, flicking and twisting make for more intense arousal.

Go above and beyond freeing the nip and start playing with them. Nipple play is exciting and fun for all parties and makes for a steamy side dish or even as a main course during sex. Don’t neglect nipples in bed and start using them more often.
