With the long-awaited 97th Academy Awards officially presented, the 2025 awards season has wrapped up. Many memorable speeches were given across all the events leaving fans obsessed making lasting impressions.
The first notable award ceremony of the season was the Golden Globes, which aired Jan. 5. The event brought forward Demi Moore’s first major award as an actress, which she mentioned in her speech, for Best Actress in a Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy. Moore detailed the harsh comments she was given in her early career, and how she was honored to have proved them wrong.
“Thirty years ago I had a producer tell me I was a popcorn actress … today I celebrate this (award) as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me,” Moore said in her acceptance speech.
Similar to Moore, The Grammys saw many women earning their first major awards. Doechii, who was nominated for both Best New Artist and Best Rap Album, highlighted she was only the third woman to have won the category since its creation in 1989 in her acceptance speech for Best Rap Album. She also encouraged other black girls to follow their passions, which deeply resonated with her fans.
“For a freshman artist, she’s gotta be one of the most talented in hip hop,” one comment wrote on NBC’s TikTok of Doechii’s speech.
“We made the right person famous,” another commenter wrote.
Chappell Roan, the winner of Best New Artist, also brought insight from a singer new to the academy. Roan emphasized many artists don’t have access to health insurance, which many fans and smaller artists supported.
“Record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees with a livable wage and health insurance,” Roan said.
Roan supported her message by donating $25,000 to Backline, which inspired other artists to do the same. Other artists such as Charli XCX and Noah Kahan matched Roan’s donation and also gave money to the cause.
Positive feedback was given to Lady Gaga’s Grammy speech for winning Best Pop Duo with Bruno Mars. After saying thank you, Gaga made a brief statement on the visibility of transgender individuals.
“Trans people are not invisible (and) trans people deserve love,” Gaga said.
The 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards took place three weeks after the Grammys, providing more fan-favorite speeches. Timothée Chalamet’s speech after winning Best Actor in the Leading Role in which he expresses his desire to be “one of the greats” went viral for its bluntness.
The award marks Chalamet’s first major award after an over seven-year-long career, causing many longtime fans to get excited. Others appreciated his atypical honesty about his career goals.
“I love that Timothée Chalamet isn’t sugarcoating how badly he wants to win the Oscar,” one X user wrote in a post with over 4 million views.
The long-awaited Oscars award ceremony took place Sunday, March 2, three weeks after the SAG awards, bringing many interesting speeches from actors. “Anora,” a film by Sean Baker, won five awards during the night, making it the film with the most wins.
Mikey Madison, the lead from “Anora,” won Best Actress and gave a nervous yet sweet and uplifting speech.
“She’s so elegant and educated,” one comment wrote on ABC’s TikTok of Madison’s speech.
While Madison and Kiernan Culkin's speeches received mostly praise, some speeches were also given at the Oscars which led to annoyance from fans. Most notably, Adrien Brody set a personal record for the longest Oscar speech in the 96-year history of the award show, timing at five minutes and 40 seconds long.
“I will wrap up, please turn the music off,” Brody said to production, asking for more time. “I’ve done this before.”
Before even beginning his elongated speech, Brody was seen tossing gum from his mouth to his girlfriend, leaving fans confused about the weird behavior. The New York Times, Variety, and the New York Post all published articles regarding the event.
“Adrien Brody had one of the strangest moments of this year's Oscars. And it wasn't his five-minute speech,” Scott Cacciola wrote for The New York Times.
One speech from the Oscars has received even more slack from viewers. Camille, one of the songwriters for “El Mal” from “Emilia Pérez,” serenaded audiences with a performance after winning Best Original Song. Viewers online expressed feelings of embarrassment or uncomfortableness at the sudden singing.
“Anyone else get bad secondhand embarrassment at this,” one TikTok user posted regarding Camille’s singing. “Like she wouldn’t stop.”
Overall, 2024’s award season brought a variety of fan-favorite moments that will go down in speech history.
