‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ excites in its midseason

Episodes three to eight of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” (2025) are now available to stream on Disney+. It has been a while since the show’s premiere and has been a mixed bag of moments for New York City’s wall-crawling, web-shooting hero.

Episode Three: “Secret Identity Crisis”

As the title of the episode suggests, our hero Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) is in an extremely awkward position now that Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) knows he is Spider-Man. Peter tries to deny this, but Norman doesn’t believe him.

As a result of his son Harry (Zeno Robinson) being rescued, Norman grew curious about Spider-Man’s identity. He explains he chose Peter to intern for Oscorp because he and others were the likely candidates to create Spider-Man’s enhanced technology. Norman offers an alliance with Peter, but he declines it.

Meanwhile, Lonnie (Eugene Byrd) and his brother Andre (Matte Martinez) are in deep trouble. Andre gets involved with a local gang. The gang’s leader, Big Donovan (Leilani Barrett), forces Lonnie to join in exchange for Andre not joining. Later in the episode, Peter decides to partner with Norman after fighting two criminals and noticing the same infinity logo he saw in the previous episode.

Episode Four: “Hitting the Big Time”

In a turn of events, the Avengers and their history of the Sokovia Accords are introduced into this universe. Norman believes he and Peter should become the protectors of New York, and Peter is given new Oscorp-designed suits. The best suit is more aligned with Peter’s original design but is more white than the iconic red and blue suit.

Lonnis, now a member of the 110th Street Gang, does various jobs for his new boss Big Donovan. However, tension rises between them and a rival gang named the Scorpions. After fighting a group of bank-robbing Russians, Peter returns to Oscorp and accidentally reveals his identity to Harry. The Russians are working for a classic Spider-Man villain, Otto Octavius (Hugh Dancy) aka Doctor Octopus.

The episode provides more neat set-ups with Spider-Man characters of old and new. Peter’s whole world is spiraling out of control episode by episode, and fans of the show will be eager to see what happens next.

Episode Five: “The Unicorn Unleashed!”

This episode will make Spider-Man fans raise their eyebrows in excitement. For one, Octavius and those associated with him are growing with their advanced technology. Also, Harry begins working with Peter since Norman’s schedule has become very busy. This later comes into play with Peter’s friendship with Nico (Grace Song) and how it begins to crumble.

Lonnie’s relationship with Big Donovan becomes a point of contention, after he saves Big Donovan from the Scorpions’ leader, Mac Gargan (Jonathan Medina). Big Donovan thanks him, and gives him the name “Tombstone.” Peter is facing more trouble and is getting beaten down by criminals. While Spider-Man is a hero, he can still shed blood.

Episode Six: “Duel with the Devil”

Now going by Tombstone, Lonnie’s life as a football star falls in on itself. He is kicked off the team and he doesn’t tell Pearl (Cathy Ang) about his relation to the 110th Street Gang. Peter tries to make things better between his friendship with Nico and Harry, but their contrasting personalities make it difficult. Norman discovers someone is trying to break into Oscorp, and he has Peter go and investigate.

Peter, as Spider-Man, fights and is eventually knocked out by the vigilante Daredevil (Charlie Cox). Many revelations occur with the first being Norman formerly being associated with Octavius. Peter returns home and is met with an angry Nico after Harry told her Peter is Spider-Man.

Episode Seven: “Scorpion Rising”

Nico initially begins ignoring Peter, but after meeting with Harry over lunch, she starts to understand why Peter would keep his identity a secret. She also considers Harry a friend now and apologizes to him for how she treated him in earlier interactions.

Gargan is now going by Scorpion, and he attacks the 110th Street Gang’s hideout. Peter swings in, saves Lonnie and Pearl and fights Scorpion. His efforts come up short and is impaled by Scorpion’s dagger. Before he dies, he is saved at the last second by Norman’s glider. It is the first time in the show where Peter is truly vulnerable and unable to defeat a villain in one fight.

Episode Eight: “Tangled Web”

Peter is at a strange crossroads now. His life has been extremely miserable and stressful, and he breaks down in front of Aunt May (Kari Wahlgreen), who comforts him. Like the episodes prior, “Tangled Web” features a surprise cameo in the form of Tony Stark/Iron Man (Mick Wingert) as he arrests Octavius.

Lonnie and Pearl’s relationship ends, and he and the rest of the 110th Street Gang decide to go after the Scorpions. Peter goes back to Norman and discusses his dilemma. He believes the reason he lost to Scorpion is because he’s holding back and with great power comes great respect.

By the end, Harry reveals to Peter that Oscorp has developed a new suit for him – one that reflects the classic Spider-Man suit fans adore.
