With the release of “Short n’ Sweet (Deluxe),” a Vogue feature, the beginning of her European tour and a series of Grammy wins, it is safe to say Sabrina Carpenter’s career has been electric over the past month.
Carpenter released “Short n’ Sweet (Deluxe)” Feb. 14, adding five new songs to the album.
“Busy Woman” is the newest track with the most streams, as fans had anticipated its release long before the deluxe album debuted. Carpenter played it on tour as a bonus song for months before its release, making it an immediate hit upon its arrival.
The songs added to the deluxe album are overall a hit. “15 Minutes” adds to Carpenter’s energetic, promiscuous personality and breaks the fourth wall by hinting at the total runtime of the new deluxe songs (15 minutes).
Carpenter talks about the song’s remaining minutes with the lyrics, “I can do a lot with fifteen minutes / Only gonna take two to make you finish.”
Carpenter’s deluxe album also contains a Dolly Parton featureon the song “Please, Please, Please” from the originabum. The dueted song received some questioning from fans, with some saying the song was too quick-paced to fit Parton’s singing voice.
The announcement for Sabrina’s deluxe album came two days after her successful Grammys night, which took place Feb. 2. Carpenter secured six Grammy nominations, winning two trophies for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Carpenter also had a personal performance at the Grammys, where she donned a classic black-suit-inspired romper and wowed the audience with a live rendition of her hit songs.
The release of “Short n’ Sweet (Deluxe)” came at the perfect time. It serves as a way to celebrate the awards she had finally won after a nearly ten-year-long career.
Carpenter also stars in a feature for Vogue, which highlights Carpenter’s rise to success, personal life and creative process. The article’s photoshoot styles Carpenter in red lipstick and glamorous bodysuits completed with large blonde curls. The design is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, which adds to Carpenter’s timeliness and classic beauty.
Carpenter’s recent media appearances do not end with Vogue. Shortly after the article's release, Carpenter starred in the “SNL” 50th Anniversary Special Feb. 15.
In it, she singsa parodied version of her song “Espresso” that went viral across social media in an earlier “SNL” skit. Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter also do a duet on the episode, performing “Homeward Bound” as an ode to Simon & Garfunkel
With Carpenter’s electric past month full of awards, articles and episodes, fans wonder what her next steps will be and what the future of her career may look like.
In terms of the future of her music, it’s important to note that Sabrina wrote “Short n’ Sweet” as a transition from her previousalbumfocused on heartbreak, “emails i can’t send.” Carpenter emphasizes in her interview with Vogue that she had gained confidence after the release of “emails i can’t send” and went into the creation of “Short n’ Sweet” aiming to show more of her bubbly personality.
“I was writing all these sad songs, and ‘Espresso’ was like the one breath of fresh air,” Carpenter said.
“Short n’ Sweet” then became a slightly dramatized version of Carpenter’s real personality, according to Vogue.
“There’s no, like, alter ego. But it’s definitely a more emphasized version of me,” Carpenter said.
It is likely this confidence-boosted, risque, energetic, bubbly and romantic side of Carpenter could stay for future albums.
Fans have also stated their desire to see Carpenter star in movies since her intricate music videos often feature well-known actors. In the music video for “Please, Please, Please,” Carpenter works with actor Barry Keoghan in a dramatic kidnapping plot. She also worked with Jenna Ortega for the “Taste” music video, which takes on horror-esque slasher elements.
For now, Carpenter has just begun her European leg of her “Short n’ Sweet” tour beginning in Dublin March 3. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see how her career will progress.
