Speedy arrest
According to a report from the Ohio University Police Department, an individual was arrested at the Speedway on Richland Avenue around mid-afternoon.
The individual was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired and OUPD arrived to assist another law enforcement agency.
Route 50 wreck
An accident occurred at U.S. Route 50 at the Richland Avenue exit, according to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. During the wreck, the parties involved were injured.
Athens County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded along with the Athens Fire Department, the Athens Emergency Medical Services and the Athens City Police. The injuries of those involved were treated.
Saturday, Feb. 1
How to get a free ride
The Athens County Sheriff's Office received a report of threats from a caller in The Plains. Deputies were dispatched, spoke to an individual and discovered no crime had taken place.
A courtesy ride was then given to the individual to a local business before deputies returned to patrol.
Assault by juvenile
A report was made to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office of an intoxicated juvenile walking at Brister Road in Coolville.
Once on scene, deputies spoke to multiple individuals and discovered the juvenile had entered another juvenile’s home and assaulted them while they slept.
Evidence was collected on the scene by deputies and possessions were returned to the appropriate party.

Baller incident
OUPD took a report of a damaged basketball hoop at Bromley Hall.
The report taken at 35 S Congress St. listed no further action.
Monday, Feb. 3
Wanted and tipsy
Near midnight, OUPD arrested a man at The Convo.
The man was arrested for disorderly conduct by intoxication and for having outstanding warrants, according to a report by OUPD.
Dementia
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a man who asked deputies to check on his father who lives in Canal Winchester. The caller told deputies his father has dementia and was threatening harm to family members.
The man’s father was located by deputies in Athens County and was then transported to a hospital for an evaluation.
Tuesday, Feb. 4
He came, he hid, he got arrested
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office for assistance locating a man wanted in Morgan County. The man’s warrants were for possession of drugs and domestic violence.
The man was located at Lathrop Road in Amesville by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, arrested without incident and given to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Just resting my eyes
A man was reported to the Athens County Sheriff's Office for lying along Poston Road in The Plains.
Once deputies were on the scene, the man said he was trying to walk to New Marshfield. The man then received a courtesy ride by deputies to his desired location.
Wednesday, Feb. 5
Shoot first, think later
Complainants were filed to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office of a neighbor shooting guns toward the caller’s property.
Deputies responded and spoke to both parties involved. The neighbor was then informed his actions were unsafe and was not allowed to shoot toward the caller’s property anymore.
Thursday, Feb. 6
The outlaw’s legend ends
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Nelsonville Police Department officers received a tip of the whereabouts of a man with an active felony warrant in Texas. The man was at a home on Myers Street in Nelsonville.
Both responded and confirmed the individual was inside. Once the homeowner gave consent to enter, deputies and officers entered and arrested the man without incident.
The man was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
On display
A Dollar General truck was reported driving down U.S. Route 33 with its back gate open, according to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies attempted to locate the vehicle but were unable. No further actions were taken.
