Wrestling: Ohio secured a win over Buffalo to close out regular season

Ohio (8-4, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) traveled on the road to face Buffalo (4-13, 2-5 in the MAC) and came out successful, winning by a score of 20-13. The Bobcats headed into Buffalo on a five-duel losing streak against the Bulls, which included three road losses in that span.

To start the day, redshirt sophomore Malachi O’Leary dropped a close one to sophomore Max Elton by a decision of 5-2, with a back-and-forth struggle coming down to a takedown by Elton in the second period.

In the 131-pound class, redshirt senior TJ England dominated redshirt sophomore Troy Guerra by a decision of 11-5. Building off the momentum, redshirt freshman Kaden Jett extended the lead with a 6-1 decision victory over Cole French in the 141-pound weight class.

While Ohio was able to jump out to an early lead, Buffalo secured the following two weight classes. The Bobcats bounced back with an 8-2 decision win from redshirt sophomore Jack Lledo over Charlie Forster in the 165-pound weight class. Following Lledo’s momentum-building win, redshirt junior Bobby Gaylord defeated Rafael Knapp in a fierce 9-4 decision in the 174-pound weight class.

The 184-pound class had the crowd on its feet, as redshirt freshman Jeremy Olszko lost by a takedown from Marcus Petite in overtime by a final score of 7-4. The Bobcats responded with a major decision shutout 8-0 from redshirt sophomore Austin Starr in the 194-pound class. Senior Jordan Greer sealed the match for Ohio, matching Starr with an 11-0 major decision shutout over Robbie Unruh in the heavyweight to secure the victory by a score of 20-13.

Ohio will look to continue its success in Lawrence Township, New Jersey, March 7-8 in the Mid-American Championship.
