Men’s Basketball: What to know before Ohio takes on Bowling Green

With eight games left, every game for Ohio (12-11, 6-4 Mid-American Conference) becomes a must-win. It’ll have a chance to pick up a difficult road win when it takes on Bowling Green (9-14, 3-7) this Tuesday.

With games against Akron, Toledo and Kent State in Ohio’s future, games against lesser-ranked opponents like Bowling Green become vital if it wants to make a run in the MAC tournament this March.

Here is everything you need to know before Ohio takes on Bowling Green:

Player to Watch Bowling Green: Marcus Johnson

Marcus Johnson leads not only the Falcons in just about every stat, he’s also the MAC’s leading scorer. Standing at 6-foot-7, Johnson will be Ohio’s top priority on the defensive end.

Johnson has seen success against some of the MAC’s best teams, with 20 or more points against Kent State and Toledo.

Besides scoring the basketball, Johnson leads Bowling Green in rebounding and is among the top three on the team in assists.

Player to Watch Ohio: Jackson Paveletzke

After a tough outing against Appalachian State, AJ Clayton doesn’t look like he’s at 100 percent after an injury. Without Clayton at his best, someone needs to step up as Ohio’s scoring leader. A prime candidate for that role is Paveletzke.

Paveletzke has scored 10 or more points in four of his last five games while remaining as the team leader in assists. If Paveletzke can continue to score consistently, Ohio will not have to rely so much on its bench and other starters.
