Mel Robbins’ formula for success

Mel Robbins is a 56-year-old mother of three who has taken the Internet and the world by storm with her theories that are made and proven to combat anxiety and live a better and healthier life. Specifically, “The Let Them Theory” has gained popularity as Robbins teaches people how to let go of things they cannot control, all with science-backed research.

Robbins began her career and success when she hit rock bottom at 41. She had gone into a massive amount of debt from a failed business endeavor and, as Forbes reports, she and her husband lost over $800,000.

Since she hit a low 15 years ago, Robbins has released three books. She also hosts “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” with new episodes released every Monday and Thursday. Now, Robbins works to build confidence and dismantle anxiety through her science-backed tools and theories.

In December 2024, Robbins published her best-selling book, “The Let Them Theory.” Robbins' mission is critical in helping people take back their lives and find a positive mindset. Her theory focuses on letting people be who they are and instead of stressing about controlling, or wishing someone acted differently, you let them. If a friend does not invite you to a party, let them. When someone says something rude, let them.

The approach focuses on regaining control of situations by letting go. Limiting fixation on expectations of people helps to limit wasted time and refocus energy. Her book dives into examples of the theory and how to implement it in daily life. The central pillar of the theory is utilizing the phrase “let them” to recenter your intentions and release control. Her theory allows people to showcase who they are by releasing attempts to influence other people’s behavior.

However, “The Let Them Theory” is not Robbins' only offer. One of her most known tools for success, the “5-Second Rule,” has recently gained attention. Robbins founded this theory after watching a NASA launch and has now created a phenomenon. The 5-second rule revolves around counting down from five after having an impulse, before taking immediate action. It limits procrastination, helps to get the brain going and is utilized in Robbins’ perfect morning routine.

When the alarm turns on in the morning, do not hit snooze — countdown to five and throw off the covers. Robbins calls this the morning launch and says it will limit procrastination by forcing the brain to jumpstart the day. Many creators on TikTok have begun to test out and try Mel Robbins's “5-second rule.” Former “Bachelor” star Kit Keenan shares that Robbins' theory changed her life, as she tells fans she never snoozes her alarm anymore.

After not hitting snooze Robbins says the next step is making your bed, “a promise kept no matter what.” Next, high-five yourself in the mirror. This next step is also a popular theory of Robbins’. The “High-Five Habit” is a method where you high-five yourself in the mirror first thing in the morning. This simple action rewires the brain to focus on self-love and confidence. She wrote a best-selling book about it and incorporating it into the morning routine helps to focus your day on self-appreciation.

Next up is drinking water before anything else, getting outside as fast as possible and moving your body in any way. These six steps compile Robbins' life-changing morning routine. On TikTok, the #melrobbins has over 37 thousand videos, as people everywhere are trying and loving her morning routine.
