The weather is sitting with a chill and clouds in the sky, so staying inside with the TV on is a popular choice. When thinking about TV and how it comforts us, it is evident that the characters who make us feel seen can make a show worth watching. At times it is the ones who are different from us who we love, and often it's the characters who act like mirrors. One of the most popular sitcoms that took over the 90s is “Friends.” The show has a tight group of six balancing each other's personalities out. People’s “Friends” comfort characters can say a lot about them.
Whether someone is serious, outgoing or a jokester, the show has a character to comfort anyone. If someone’s comfort character is Rachel, then they are most likely a kind-hearted but decently sensitive person. Maybe they enjoy shopping and fashion and are always there for their friends. Some faults of theirs probably include jealousy and some messy tendencies. Regardless, like Rachel, they are a ray of sunshine in any room they enter.
Next is Rachel’s long-term roommate, Monica. The two are a duo, so if someone’s comfort character is Monica, then chances are they have a Rachel in their inner circle. Monica is a sort of neat person who constantly wants to do things for her friends. She is reliable and very competitive. If Monica is someone’s comfort character, then they more than likely enjoy order and organized events. They may be on edge at times but never waver in being a reliable companion.
The third girl in the trio is Phoebe. She is whimsical and spiritual. She knows who she is and owns it, even if she is different from others in extreme ways. Her being someone's comfort character means that there’s a good chance they are outgoing and outspoken as well. They let loose and don’t take life too seriously. At times this person probably makes others question their own beliefs.
Humor is a big part of the show and the carrier of this is Chandler for the most part. If Chandler is someone’s comfort character, they are probably very sarcastic, a little unsure of themself, but so kind and loving. They always want others to smile around them, although they might call other people out a lot.
Chandler’s roommate for about half the show is Joey. Joey is definitely toward the top of loveable characters. He is always there no matter what and is a very smooth talker. If someone’s comfort character is Joey, then they enjoy a good laugh and simply want to have a good time. Don’t underestimate this person though because they can be very clever.
Ross is intelligent, but at times stubborn. He knows how to care for others and not give up on a love he finds real. If someone finds comfort in Ross, then they are most likely one of the smartest people someone knows and is always willing to help others. They might enjoy science and have been in a couple of long-term relationships.
Overall, “Friends” is a show perfect for people to see themselves because each character is very different. The show demonstrates how no person is perfect, but with the right group of people, the good parts are emphasized.
