Kickin’ with Kyra: Make Valentine’s Day special

With Valentine's Day creeping up in just two short weeks, there is much to prepare for. Whether in a relationship or not, thinking of ways to make the day special can be a task. However, there are so many gift ideas and ways to celebrate the holiday of pink and red.

For those in a relationship, the question is: what is the best gift to give? It is a good idea to look toward being creative and personal. Don’t wait until the last minute, and actually take advantage of a holiday that has everything to do with love.

Social media users have many different ideas to look for. Scroll Pinterest or TikTok for ideas. Circling TikTok are matchbox collages with personalized meanings on each matchbox picture. These collages frame different small moments in the relationship and have matchboxes representing each. Ideas on what to put include the date people met, favorite date people had or someone’s favorite song. These are gifts that can be used as wall art for a long time as well and can be put to good use.

Following the craft appeal, another idea is a scrapbook. Print out a bunch of pictures at CVS and find different stickers from basically any store. This idea doesn’t take too much skill and is very personal. This can also be done in a collage format if finding a book is tricky.

Flowers are a staple for celebrations, especially Valentine’s Day. Be creative and don’t just purchase simple store-bought flowers, but a personalized bouquet instead. Either get one as a gift or make it an activity and go with a partner or friends. Bouquets are a creative gift and a heartfelt activity.

If someone isn’t the craftiest, then there are other forms of gifts to give that are just as thoughtful. Acts of service can count as gifts. Plan or cook a dinner and maybe make it themed. Trader Joe’s even has heart-shaped noodles and cookies. Having a fun dinner easily counts toward gift points and is a good way to have quality time.

Dinner isn’t just a way to celebrate with a partner; it can also be a friendly activity. Get a group together and go out to a nice place because regardless of relationship status, it is still a holiday. Doing things with friends on Valentine’s Day can be even more fun than with a partner. Get themed snacks and decorate to have a party or movie night. See how many romantic comedies can be watched in one night while eating heart-shaped chocolate.

Another idea for people who are single (or not) is to have a PowerPoint night. Make fun of everyone’s past love conquests and be entertained. Get a projector and do crafts at the same time.

Overall, Valentine’s Day is a holiday with the opportunity to surprise people and celebrate. It has many themes and can be brought to life through dates, movie nights and crafts. Plan ahead with presents and plans because there are so many options for the day of love.
