Ohio (3-12, 1-4 Mid-American Conference) will travel north to the Glass City Saturday to face Toledo (11-4 overall, 3-2 MAC) in another big in-conference matchup.

Toledo notes

The Rockets were among the top class in the MAC last season and made a deep run in the tournament before losing to Buffalo in overtime of the semifinals. Their 2023-24 record of 28-6 earned Tricia Cullop, the Rockets' previous head coach, a job as the head coach of Miami’s (FL) women’s basketball team.

This season, first-year head coach Ginny Boggess has the Rockets playing well again, sitting at 11-4 through her first 15 games as head coach. Toledo’s most recent game against Western Michigan resulted in a low-scoring loss by a score of 41-38. The Rockets will look to bounce back at home against a struggling Ohio team.

Player to watch: Sammi Mikonowicz

The graduate student from Rossford, Ohio, a suburb just outside of Toledo, has improved her game this season. She leads the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game and in rebounds with 5.7 per game.

She has put up those scoring numbers efficiently, shooting over 48% from the field, 38% from three and 78% on free throws. While Khera Goss and Kendall Carruthers have also been key pieces for Toledo, averaging over 10 points per game, Mikonowicz has been the top dog for the Rockets this season.
