Women’s Basketball: Everything to know ahead of Ball State

Ohio (4-14, 2-6 MAC*) is back in action on Wednesday. It is looking to continue winning after defeating Eastern Michigan this past Saturday.

Ohio will welcome Ball State (16-4, 8-0 MAC*) into Athens. This matchup will mean a little more for Ohio as this Ball State team eliminated them from the MAC Tournament last March. That matchup is one of six consecutive games Ball State has won against Ohio. Ohio will look to end that streak Wednesday.

Here is everything to know ahead of the matchup:

Common opponents

Ohio State

The Cardinals are undefeated in conference play and have won 10 games in a row, stretching back to a loss against a common opponent of the Bobcats, the Buckeyes of Ohio State. The Cardinal suffered a 32-point loss*, while the Bobcats lost by 64*.

MAC opponents

Ball State and Ohio have taken on six common opponents within the conference. They have taken on Kent State, Akron, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Buffalo. Ball State is 6-0 and Ohio has gone 2-4 in these matchups*.

Players to watch (Ohio): Kennedi Watkins and Kate Dennis

The Bobcats will lean on the scoring of some veterans of this matchup. Senior Kennedi Watkins will look to recreate a stellar performance from a matchup from a year ago, where she put up 21 points at home*.

The Bobcats will also look for senior Kate Dennis and her leadership skills on both ends of the floor to be a spark for them. Dennis has played Ball State six times throughout her career, with a high of 12 points throughout those matchups*, also averaging 1.5 rebounds and a steal throughout her career*.

Player to watch (Ball State): Ally Becki

The Cardinal has a strong all-around offensive attack, but the heart and soul is senior Ally Becki. Becki has been dominant all year, averaging nearly 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists*. She has played a role in the last six matchups and will have to be the focus of a pesky Ohio defense; they will have to carry over from Saturday.
