Hockey: Ohio back in Bird Arena for first home game of season

It’s been a long time coming. After a series of maintenance woes, Ohio is back in Bird Arena for its first home game this season against Pitt. Despite a slew of canceled games and playing every game on ice that wasn’t their own, the Bobcats have an impressive 10-2 record.

Although there were a few close calls, especially in heated rivalries against Liberty and Minot, Ohio has prevailed offensively and ended up on top of the ACHA M1 rankings for the first time in over 8 years. Now, the Bobcats are looking to keep their energy alive with the help of dedicated Bobcats fans. Here is everything you need to know before the first series of the new year.

Series Information:

Opponent: Pitt (7-8)

Date and Time: Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m.

Location: Bird Arena (Athens, Ohio)

History: Ohio has a bit of a topsy-turvy history with Pitt, splitting two series in 2022 and 2024. The 2024 series was high-scoring, but a lack of cohesion on the ice ultimately led to Ohio’s loss. The 2022 loss ended Ohio’s undefeated season that year. Pitt is certainly not a team to be taken lightly.

Players to Watch:

Sophomores Noah Holt and Drake Nabozny are heading to the Winter World University games to play on Team USA, a testament to their skillset. Holt has 9 points this season and an impressive 38 last season, while Nabozny has scored 12 points this season as a defenseman.
