DC, Marvel projects face anticipation in 2025

Two juggernaut franchises, Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe and Warner Bros.’ DC Universe, both have something to prove to fans this year in 2025.

For Marvel Studios, it is making profitable and enjoyable content which will either be on streaming or shown in theaters across the nation. For DC Studios, it’s making a profound and memorable beginning under the new direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

While both franchises may be seen as enemies to each other, both currently share the same stress and anticipation of how loyal fans will react to its products.

Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios has nine projects coming out in 2025, and it is the most amount of films and television shows the studio has released in a single year in a long time.

The company will release three films this year: “Captain America: Brave New World” Feb.14, “Thunderbolts” May 2 and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” July 25.

In the territory of TV, three live-action television shows and three animated shows are set to release. The live-action shows are “Daredevil: Born Again,” which is set to premiere March 4, “Ironheart” June 24 and “Wonder Man” sometime in Dec. 2025.

On the animated side, the first two episodes of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” premiere Jan. 29. On Aug. 6, “Eyes of Wakanda” will premiere and almost two months later, “Marvel Zombies” premieres Oct. 3. All television will be able to stream on Disney +.

Marvel Studios’ main objective this year is to get the hearts of fans who maybe felt the Marvel Cinematic Universe peaked when it had the original Avengers together and had villains like Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki still present.

If all nine projects scheduled to release this year do well both financially and critically, then it’ll be safe to say the MCU will get its swagger back.

DC Studios

DC Studios is on a different path. Instead of regaining fans who maybe have fallen away, the company is putting its toes in the water of a new era of DC-related films and television shows. The studio’s first work, “Creature Commandos,” aired on Max and ended Jan. 9, 2025.

As for films, there is only one DC Studios project releasing this year: Gunn’s “Superman” starring David Corenswet on July 11. In the television department, the second season of “Peacemaker” starring John Cena is set to premiere sometime in August on Max.

DC Studios has an odd challenge to face with its fans since a good portion of them are fans of Zack Synder’s work in the DC Extended Universe. Synder’s vision for the cinematic universe abruptly ended once Gunn came aboard and decided to wipe the DC Universe clean and start from scratch.

The first teaser trailer for “Superman” received great praise but also great shame from those who thought Henry Cavill’s Superman was taken away from them. Cavill was the only actor who played the character perfectly in their eyes, and a recast seemed like the cardinal sin.

Still, there are many fans who have expressed their excitement for the film. Its release in theaters will be the determining factor on whether or not this new era of DC will have a hopeful future or a bleak one.

2025 is a big year for both Marvel and DC Studios. By the end, fans of each will get to experience if the franchises they love made them proud or not.
